We made our own laundry detergent a couple years ago and I’m not sure why we ever went back to buying store bought. Probably because we didn’t want to take the extra 15 minutes to actually make it (insert eye roll). Haha!
We ran out this week so I thought it was the perfect time to make some more!
If I’m honest, at first I thought it was a little weird to be making your own laundry detergent when you can just run to the store and grab some.
We started adding up the cost to make vs buying store bought. This only cost about $15 to make and it’s over 400 loads! I mean how could you not??
We bought all of the ingredients at Walmart. They were all right beside one another in the cleaning aisle. SCORE!!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Container (not exactly like mine but very similar)
3 Fels Naptha
Pure Baking Soda (Value Size)
Laundry Booster Super Washing Soda
**We added in a large thing of Purex Chrystals to make it smell even better! We didn’t do the Purex Chrystals last time and it worked just fine!**
First, we cut the Fels Naptha into little squares and put a few squares in our Ninja. Once that was a little blended, then we added in a few more. You could use a regular cheese grater if you wanted. This was just easier and quicker.
Next, we took all the ingredients outside to the patio. We just used a regular bucket to mix all the ingredients in together. You can use a 5 gallon bucket or whatever you have on hand.
Last, we poured it into the container! There was quite a bit extra that fit into a gallon sized bag to refill later!
It calls for 2 tbsp for each load. I use a 1/4 c measuring cup and just fill it up halfway.
**We use this for Norah’s clothes as well with no issues!**
Hope you enjoy! Send me an email if you have any questions!!
